Trend Report: Sequin Take Over

All things that sparkle — Sequins, embellished jewels, and reflective pieces.

Dries Van Noten showcased sequin bomber jackets, dresses and skirts and was the most colorful for this trend. Dries Van Noten featured a lot of color and brocade print down the runway, this is also one that used embellishments to accent pieces with a glittering touch.

Paco Rabanne put the disco back into 70s fashion with paisley print paired with neutral sequins. Nailing this trend with the pant design made up of a full leg of horizontal slits, only with things that sparkel. And not to mention a head-to-toe sequin jumpsuit. Basic silver and black sparkles emerged on the Louis Vuitton SS18 RTW, and has since capatilized on the sequin trend with shift dresses for the holidays.

Saint Laurent had a magnificent runway show, held under the sparkling Eiffel Tower showcasing fashions rising supermodel, Kaia Gerber. Various looks strutted the runway with embellished sequins and sheer fabric with a fine pattern of jewels. My personal favorite look from this Saint Laurent show was the oversized red leather with tiny silver round studs that reflected down the spotlight runway.

Final looks of the show featured all black sequins pieces, varying from short dresses with exaggerated structure, layered jackets, and even a deep-v jumpsuit that would make for an amazing fit to ring in the new year. Dior followed similar suit with their final looks in the SS18 show, models strutted the runway in colorful disco tops paired with transparent tule skirts.

With my personal style I am not sure if I could pull this trend simply to grab lunch or go to the office in without feeling like I am about to attend a holiday party or go out to the discotheque. Also many of the looks that featured this trend did not have a lot of color, there was a lot of silver and black, which I think could be elevated with color. So how will we see this trend on the street? I have a few styling ideas.

So think back to when Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were on the cover of every tabloid magazine, and we have the color of the rainbow in juicy couture velour jogging suits ruining errands. Low rise jeans and bedazzled bags. I think its about time for it to come back. Isn’t the juicy couture track suit back already? Anyways, let the jewels and sparkles shine through your wardrobe. Or even taking a note from Loralie Gilmore who would rock the statment sequin shrug.

Another look would be a sequin tank dresses. This would look great layered over long sleeves, bringing back that 70s inspiration. What could be a very colorful look can be paired up with white leather boots and some round framed sunglasses.
