Summer Is Almost Here! And These Handbags Make For The Perfect Splash of Color
Being out on the west coast right now feels like summer has arrived. I am living for these 80 degree days and can’t wait to see what’s in store for when the summer months actually come around. Spring is time for spring cleaning and revamping the closet for warmer weather. Festivals, beach days, pool days, trips, city hangouts —I am in need of a new handbag for the season.
This summer season is screaming for a wardrobe of bright neon colors. Some trends to consider if you’re looking for a bag include snake and crocodile faux leather, see-thru PVC, woven/basket, belt bags, box clutches, and circular cross-body bags.
The belt bag, what I’ve always known to be as a fanny pack, won’t go away. I have refused to consider getting one but I think the day that I cave in has finally come and for a couple reasons; carrying around either a small handbag or cross-body can sometimes get in the way of activities. I also think it offers a great way to add flair to an outfit while being very “efficient.” The most recent way people are wearing this is across the body vs actually around the waist. Either way works, feel it out for yourself.

Woven, tweed, and basket bags are everywhere. They make for the perfect sunny day bag. There are some pretty cool ones out there. I came across some with shells, fringe, and beads. The woven style is definitely influencing beyond the handbag and into the categories of shopper bag or beach tote.
Basket style handbags made it big last summer with the on-trend Cult Gaia Ark bag. This season has taken on a more literal style and falls under a more classic statement piece. There is also a secondary trend following last summer; acrylic marbled pastels.

But the most exciting trend I look forward to sporting is the PVC, a trend that I have been on since last summer and it is finally coming in full force this season. It is this season’s most playful trend but can be a tricky one to pull off without looking messy because it is transparent. I have featured a Fendi PVC handbag and Versace tote, both in a bright color of orange and pink. But this can also be played down with more neutral bags like this Rebecca Minkoff Leo Clear Clutch.
At the end of last summer, I purchased a transparent vinyl handbag from a secondhand store and to add contrast I paired it a small neon yellow wristlet wallet. You can find some bags in this style that are sold with the contrasting inside which is cool. But if not, that just makes the combination possibilities endless. Check out how I styled it below.
