Spring/Summer 2021 Trends to Watch

Spring fashion brings a renewal to our every day with bright colors and floral, but what other trends should we look out for and try this spring and summer? Spring RTW collections walked the runways at the end of last year and Jane Theory uncovers 3 top fashion trends below.

First trend spotted on the runway I can see going well into the summer and even sooner like April/May was crochet and knitted pieces. Dior debuted a bohemian, flowy, Mediterranean approach to this trend. A hemp nude crocheted dress accessorized with multiple skinny brown leather belts at the waist and woven open-toe sandals.

The Dior Spring 21 RTW collection was reminiscent of the Valentino Spring RTW 2016 collection when Maria Grazia Chiuri was still working alongside Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino. And on that note, Valentino also walked a rusted brown crocheted dress down the 2021 runway. True to Valentino, a very romantic collection, with lots of lace including a neon green super-mini long sleeve dress.

Bottega Veneta sported two trends on my list at once with a knitted red and pink dress (color blocking). Along with a crochet floral duster, again a very bohemian look to try this season.

And onto trend number two, color blocking. I’m very excited about this one and already have some things in the works for this trend. Balmain walked a tennis ball yellow emphasized shoulder top paired with a fuchsia pink asymmetrical skirt simply accessorized with round sunglasses and white booties. Versace’s SS 21 featured bold colors of pink, green and blue worn together (read more on the underwater-themed runway looks).

Color blocking was also seen on the Resort 2021 in Balmain and Versace but with a twist… Pastels. Color blocking was very popular in 2010/2011 and with the pastel approach, the opportunities are endless for spring styling.

The last trend to watch for is 80’s print. Siriano was one to flat out use the print in a trio look featuring a mask, top and pants. Louis Vuitton had an interesting approach with mixing abstract color accents and graphics strips of logos to resembling a print. Chanel similar to LV did not use a print exactly but rather monogrammed neon logo. There was also reference to old Hollywood movies on the Chanel SS21 runway.

For me, Collina Strada SS 21 RTW had a resemblance of 80s print with a squiggle purple and coral print, and then a surfer beach square print. This is a fun way to incorporate pattern and color.

Mission: Find a cool 80s print garment at the thrift store. How to style these trends coming in the upcoming weeks, stay tuned!
