From quiet luxury to denim vests, here are five trends to wear
Even though I don’t like summer coming to an end it was 90 in Sacramento yesterday halfway through October, so fall looks a little different here. There is a buzz around the fashion industry this time of year, SS24 fashion week wrapped earlier this month and there are a handful of trends that have stood out.

Quiet luxury is the trend everyone is talking about right now, it’s truly timeless and classic, and for many, it’s already their go-to style. Sofia Richie has been recognized as a trendsetter for this, and propelling away from the logos. For me, this came to the surface when the series finale of Succession was airing in the spring. If it wasn’t already one of the best shows, it made it that much better when people started to deep dive into the costume direction for the show. Styling this trend is all about classic neutral items, like tailored trousers, a sleek handbag, a collared blouse, and gold hoop earrings; and there is a way to pull off the trend without spending the luxury price.

There is nothing like a new handbag when the new season hits and suede handbags are having a moment. I love that it adds richness and texture to any fall look. It can be a hobo or tote bag to serve as the everyday catch-all bag, like this Saint Laurent Suede Hobo Bag. For a night out, I am obsessed with the smaller, clutch size suede purses, like this Loeffler Randall Baguette Shoulder Bag.

Denim has either made its way back to being front and center or it just never left. Denim on denim made its claim this past spring and denim continues to be the trend for fall. We started to see this trend last year on the Spring 2023 RTW runways with brands like Givenchy, Miu Miu, and Annakiki, and it’s trickled into the fall with denim sets or dresses. Instead of jeans, maybe you mix it up by adding a denim midi or maxi skirt. There’s a strong chance you already have items in your wardrobe to pull this trend off, maybe it’s an oversized denim button-up shirt to an outfit.

Continuing with the denim trend, a denim vest is an essential that will be in rotation this year. A fall wardrobe is all about having transitional items that are easy to layer and vests have been a standout staple leading up to the season. It can be layered over a long sleeve or it can be worn sleeveless with a tank – it’s giving Kim Kardashian circa 2010 in the iconic leggings and denim vest look. If you want to go for a slightly more sophisticated look, a tailored suit vest set or a linen collared vest is perfect for a night out.

I will leave you with the must have for the season: a pair of leather riding boots. When you switch over from sandals to boots, it really seals the beginning of fall. A pair of black leather knee-high boots offer a sleek and refined option to be paired with a skirt or jeans tucked into them, they could be a stiletto like these by Reformation or with a block heel like these by Anine Bing.
