What to shop for and how to style this trend

Once Thanksgiving evening hits, the holiday season is in full swing and the transition from fall to winter begins. Winter technically doesn’t start until the 21st, but if you are looking to add in some statement pieces for your “end of fall” and intro to winter wardrobe, a top trend to shop for right now is quilted clothing.

The most common option for this trend is a coat, (you know ‘puffer’ or puffy coats), and even vests. But quilted jackets have expanded into more day-to-day wearable pieces like pants, skirts, shoes.

On the Runway: This trend started to make its way back in Fall/Winter 2020 (shown early 2020) on the Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen’s runway. A reimagined approach to quilted coats. A structured, sleek quilted coat from Alexander McQueen, accessorizing with black essentials. In Fall/Winter 2021, Chanel walked quilted logo overalls, paired with a beanie and sheer long sleeve. A look meant to be served on a ski trip (…maybe one spent inside the lodge).

Styling: Most of the options for quilted items will be leather. A great alternative if you already have a pair of faux leather pants you are thinking of swapping it out. There’s also a more lightweight patchwork style, more common in shirts or jackets. Going with this more traditional look, like some of these amazing Free People options here and here.

From H&M to high-end luxury, quilted accessories is where the fun begins. The selection is endless; handbags, boots, scarves, gloves. I really came across a lavender quilted phone case. The materials vary but most commonly leather/imitation leather.

Right now, a lot more in accessories than there is less in the quilted bottoms. While the trend might be close to reaching its peak, that just means the selection is only growing. So stay on the lookout for unique quilted items that might just make it into your cart! My eyes are out there for the perfect quilted winter coat.
